Built by someone who lived the problem
15 years running behavioral experiments at EPFL and CNRS/INSERM means every tool, protocol, and recommendation is grounded in what actually happens in a real lab — not what looks good in a slide deck.

Behavioral neuroscientist turned data infrastructure builder — helping preclinical teams turn complex experimental data into reusable scientific knowledge.

The story
"Most preclinical labs generate gigabytes of behavioral data — and lose most of its value to poor metadata, incompatible formats, and no shared vocabulary. I spent 15 years inside that problem. Now I build the infrastructure to solve it."
After a PhD at EPFL and two postdocs at CNRS/INSERM Montpellier, Damien founded Neuronautix — a scientific consultancy at the intersection of behavioral neuroscience, FAIR data governance, and agentic AI. His work spans independent consulting, open-source tool development, and the MetaDatApp platform — all aimed at making preclinical research data findable, reusable, and reproducible by design.
What makes this work different
15 years running behavioral experiments at EPFL and CNRS/INSERM means every tool, protocol, and recommendation is grounded in what actually happens in a real lab — not what looks good in a slide deck.
From metadata schema design to deployed Python pipelines, Damien works end-to-end. He builds the tools, writes the documentation, trains the team — and stays until the data actually works.
LWTools, MAPP, FAIR-VCG, MBO, HCMO — all open source. Because reproducible science needs shared infrastructure, not proprietary lock-in. The community is part of the product.
Founder
Damien is the founder and CEO of Neuronautix. With over 15 years of experience in behavioral and preclinical neuroscience — including a PhD at EPFL Switzerland and two postdocs at CNRS/INSERM Montpellier — he specializes in mouse models, behavioral analysis, Home-Cage Monitoring, physiological recordings, metadata management, and FAIR data strategies.
He is a member of the COST-TEATIME action, administrator of TheBehaviourForum, contributor to ontology development (MBO, HCMO), and builder of the MetaDatApp platform. His scientific writing spans peer-reviewed articles in journals including Science Advances and Translational Psychiatry, as well as book chapters published by Springer in 2026.
How I can help
Independent guidance on system selection, experimental design, data extraction, and behavioral pipeline development across all major commercial and DIY HCM platforms.
Designing practical FAIR metadata workflows, ontology-aware schemas, and data documentation strategies that make preclinical datasets reusable today and in ten years.
Custom Python workflows for behavioral tracking, HCM analytics, ECG/HRV, circadian rhythms, and multimodal data alignment — from raw recordings to publication-ready figures.
Active research workstreams with CNRS/LIRMM (Dr. Konstantin Todorov): ontology-constrained LLM navigation over preclinical knowledge graphs, neuro-AI & stat-AI embedding methods for scientific knowledge generation, and multi-agent scientific reasoning pipelines. Companies and consortia can join as co-funders, co-developers, or licensees.
